Viking Spearmen Shieldwall standing

Perhaps the most famous Viking battle tactic was the "shield wall". When they were to fight an open field battle, the spearmen would usually pick the grounds and form a line with their shields interlocking, while warriors behind them shoot arrows or throw spears.
